I was a pallbearer at his funeral. I'll never forget that the mother of his child was there. They handed her the American flag and she put it on the ground and sprayed a peace sign on the coffin.
I'm so glad that Chuck is being remembered. He was a great guy. I remember how shocked I was when I read the newspaper clipping about his death that my mother had sent me. Chuck and I were neighbors during high school and enjoyed seeing each other daily while waiting for the school bus. We also used to get together at his house to listen to music, talk, and laugh. His parents were lovely people and were devastated by the loss of their only child. Chuck's photos, including his military photo, were prominently displayed in their living room. I always felt that Chuck was present in the room, that we just couldn't see him. His parents opened their hearts to his widow (I believe her name was Yvonne) and their grandchild who were frequent visitors.
Chuck was a very Happy son of Nancy and Burt Mcginnes. He and I were Acolytes at Christ Episcopal, also members of His Mother's leading the EYG (church youth group); Mischief was no stranger when we were hanging out. My Lottery Number 363...Chucks Was 11. His death inspired my career with the VA as a way to resolve my survivor's sadness for not being able to enjoy his friendship into my old age. Rest Well my Friend
These comments about our friend Chuck, especially the remembrances from Jerry and Ellen, touch my heart and remind me of why I have such fond memories of our class.
And Ronnie's death made me very sad as we had recently shared our thoughts about the world at large and I admired his perspective. I appreciate you all and wish I could make the reunion this year but I don't think I'll be able to. I'm glad we have this forum to keep in touch at least a little. Grateful for every day.
I too remember Chuck......his death such a waste. We have a very caring class and it is joyous to read these lovely caring post. Looking forward to seeing all who can make the gathering this year. Sad saying goodbye to so many of our gang. Are we getting long in the tooth? I don't feel like we are but I guess our birth certificates say differently.

I remember, he was a very sweet guy. He was the only person I knew who died in Viet Nam. So very sad.
